AUSTIN, Texas - Stacy Stephens scored 19 and No. 2 Texas routed Texas State 88-27 Wednesday night, setting a school record by holding the Bobcats to nine points in the second half.
Texas has won its past five by an average of 40.4 points. Tiffany Jackson added 18 points for the Longhorns.
Ally Kelly scored eight to lead Texas State, which hit three shots in the second half.
Texas led 45-18 at halftime behind 63 percent shooting and 42 points in the paint.
Stephens was 9-of-10 from the floor overall and hit all five attempts in the first half, most of them layups on easy turnarounds in the post. Coach Jody Conradt subbed early and often to experiment with different lineups.
By the time the score was 25-5 with 11 minutes left in the half, the Longhorns started passing up open shots in favor of dumping the ball down low or driving for easy layups.
Texas State shot 20 percent from the floor for the game and 3-of-29 after halftime.
NO. 7 PURDUE 68, VALPARAISO 57: Shereka Wright had 18 points and six rebounds and Katie Gearlds added 16 points for the visiting Boilermakers.
Purdue outrebounded the Crusaders 25-19 in the second half and finished with a season-high 43. Carol Duncan had seven of her game-high nine rebounds in the half to help Purdue break open a close game.
NO. 8 PENN ST. 82, MARYLAND 65: Kelly Mazzante scored 33 and the visiting Nittany Lions pulled away in the second half to hand the Terrapins their first loss.
Penn State never trailed and had a 37-19 rebounding edge. But the game wasn't decided until the second half, when the Nittany Lions finally asserted themselves against smaller, younger Maryland.
NO. 11 GEORGIA 65, HOUSTON 52: Kara Braxton had 22 points and 12 rebounds for the host Bulldogs. Alexis Kendrick added 10 points, and Christi Thomas had 13 rebounds.
Chandi Jones scored 20 for the Cougars but shot 6-of-19 from the field. A year ago, she was 13-of-16 against Georgia and scored 37 in Houston's 81-79 victory.
NO. 13 UNC 101, TENN.-MARTIN 63: Candace Sutton scored 19 and La'Tangela Atkinson had 13 points and 15 rebounds for the host Tar Heels.
NO. 16 OKLAHOMA 85, SMU 63: Caton Hill had 14 points and 10 rebounds as the visiting Sooners avenged a 71-68 loss to the Mustangs last season that snapped a 24-game home winning streak.
NO. 17 COLORADO 81, COLO. ST. 74: Tera Bjorklund scored 28 and Kate Fagan 16 to lead the visiting Buffaloes.
NO. 23 VA. TECH 79, ODU 72: Dawn Chriss had a career-high 21 points and seven rebounds, and Ieva Kublina, a senior playing in her 100th game, also scored 21 and had eight rebounds for the host Hokies.
