Session to teach how to restore retention pond

By Times Staff Writer
Published March 31, 2004

Pasco's Adopt-a-Pond initiative gets started Thursday evening with a classroom training session at the Land O'Lakes Recreation Complex on Collier Parkway.

It's the first step before volunteers get to work restoring a retention pond along U.S. 41 this weekend.

The 7 p.m. training session will teach volunteers how to restore ponds in the community. The first project is a retention pond owned and maintained by the Florida Department of Transportation. The pond is something of an eyesore and is on the east side of U.S. 41 just south of State Road 54 - a spot that acts as one of the main entrances to Land O'Lakes. After the training session, organizers with Scenic Pasco and Pascowildlife Inc. hope volunteers will work to restore ponds throughout the community.
