Editor: I, like most of you, travel the roads of Pasco County. We live in a time when things are changing fast, from the roads we travel, people we meet, and the circumstances we encounter each day.
How we adjust our way of thinking, our attitudes, or our actions, each one of us can make a difference, and can have an impact in our society. For the past two years, I have driven over 45 hours per week on the roads of Pasco County. What I have encountered is commendable and has need of great recognition. We need to give honor to whom honor is due.
I, like most of you, used to look forward to the snowbirds going back north, which implied fewer accidents, a better traffic flow on our roads. Well, there's not much difference today when they leave.
Which makes the thing I must say especially important. The Pasco County Sheriff's Office, EMS personnel, local city police officers, the Florida Highway Patrol and others, you are the best. Thank you for doing such a great job. My hat's off to you. I applaud your efforts and hard work.
I have witnessed them in action, almost every day, and many times in the same day. They are outstanding in their profession. We are blessed with men and women who serve our communities with excellence, hearts of compassion, and who demonstrate their profession with integrity. They do it over and over, even when some are false alarms.
I have great respect for the men and women (young and old) in the armed forces, which fit into the bigger picture of our security and protection, but I have as much respect and appreciation for those that are very close to where we live.
They are to be commended and respected for what they do, day in and day out, with little or no recognition, and some have been doing this for many years. May God bless them for their faithfulness in their profession, and to us in Pasco County.
May others of you reading this join in the support of our men and women who help make Pasco County a better and safer place in which to live. Please make an effort to show your appreciation. They really do deserve it.

VFW depends on public gratitude
Editor: It is time to clear up a misconception associated with our poppies program. We do not sell nor do we solicit donations, rather we rely on the generosity of a gracious public. Selling indicates a set asking price; soliciting infers we approach the public and ask for a contribution. None of this is applicable to this venture. All monies collected are put into a relief fund geared to assist veterans who may be impaired or in need. That's it.
In keeping with policies adopted by this post years ago, it is important that we convey our gratitude and appreciation to the businesses that afford us this privilege: Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Kash n' Karry, Publix, Winn-Dixie and Kmart, to a more than generous public our sincere thanks.

Honesty praised in return of lost purse
Editor: I want to thank the person who returned my purse to Kmart in New Port Richey recently. I left it in the shopping cart and drove off without it. I can't believe I did such a dumb thing and I'm eternally grateful to you. Everything was still in it. There are still some honest people in this country. Thank you, thank you.
