© St. Petersburg Times, Mr. Souvlaki restaurant moves to larger locationTARPON SPRINGS -- Mr. Souvlaki restaurant -- part of downtown Tarpon Springs' landscape for 15 years -- has moved to new, larger quarters. Owner George Tsetsenis purchased about an acre at 802 N Pinellas Ave. and built a 2,200-square-foot, free-standing building that can accommodate 100 customers. When the lease was about to run out at the old place on Dodecanese Boulevard, Tsetsenis said he began looking for a new location. The owner of the property on Pinellas Avenue wanted to sell, and Tsetsenis said he was ready to build his own place. "The opportunity and timing was perfect for us," he said. He paid $190,000 for the property, he said. The restaurant has 12 employees who went with the move. Tsetsenis said he will hire additional help. Mr. Souvlaki is a family business. Tsetsenis' wife, Rania, is the cashier; and the couple's two sons, Sam and Jimmy, work in the restaurant. A native of Argos, Greece, Tsetsenis, 45, grew up in Toronto, Canada, and began working in the food business when he was 17. He moved his family here in 1992 from Toronto when he bought Mr. Souvlaki. Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, the restaurant's menu includes appetizer salads, cheese plates, homemade soup, pickled octopus, sandwiches, side dishes, traditional Greek dinners, steamed shrimp, fish and chips, a special Greek chow mein and desserts. Prices range from $2 for a cup of soup to $13.95 for a pound of steamed shrimp served with a Mr. Souvlaki sauce and Greek bread.
